BETHEL — To celebrate autumn, the Mahoosuc Land Trust will host a paddle on the Androscoggin River and area hikes this month.
The second annual Fall River Paddle will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Hanover Boat Ramp and travel 12 miles to the Rumford Boat Ramp next to McDonald’s. People can also put in at the old Madison Motel site in Rumford, according to a Friday news release from the trust.
There will be hamburgers and hot dogs for participants. To register, call Bill Hine at 562-8278 or Jim Rinaldo at 364-2983.
In partnership with the University of Maine Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond, the Maine Mineral Museum and Mahoosuc Pathways, the trust has developed a range of activities to celebrate the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Four of the activities will start and end at the home of Jeff Newsom and Saranne Taylor, 69 Winslow Road (off the Intervale Road) in Bethel.
Meet at 69 Winslow Road at 10 a.m. for a hike to Bucks and Lapham ledges, a paddle on the Androscoggin, a bike ride on rolling hills, or a tour of the Bumpus Mine.
A social gathering starts at 2 p.m. at 69 Winslow Road to celebrate the Great Outdoors. Barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by the land trust. Participants are asked to bring a side, salad or dessert to share.
Additionally, Mahoosuc Pathways is holding a trail work day on the Woodsum Spur on Puzzle Mountain in Newry.

Mahoosuc Pathways is a new organization that took up the Bethel Pathways activities, as well as area trails, in general, Jim Mitchell, executive director of the Mahoosuc Land Trust, said Tuesday by e-mail.
The trust discontinued its Bethel Pathways Committee in 2011.
The land trust’s focus is to maintain trails on its preserves and properties, Mitchell said.
