ELLSWORTH — Nominees are being sought for the Patience W. Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence, a $5,000 grant for teachers in SAD 52 (Turner, Leeds and Greene).

Full-time teachers with a minimum tenure of five years in SAD 52 are eligible for the award. Teachers who stimulate intellectual curiosity, raise aspirations and demand critical thinking in their classrooms are eligible.

Prior recipients of the Norman Prize may be re-nominated after a hiatus of one year.

Nomination forms are available at the Maine Community Foundation website, www.mainecf.org, or by calling 877-700-6800. Completed nomination forms should be sent to SAD 52, Patience Norman Prize Nominee, 486 Turner Center Road, Turner, ME 04282.

Nomination forms must be received by Oct. 19. A memorial to high school history teacher Patience W. Norman, the fund was established in 2005 at the Maine Community Foundation.

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation has worked with donors and educators since 1983 to provide Maine students with access to educational opportunities. The community foundation manages nearly 450 scholarship funds.
