DANFORTH — Divers with the Maine Warden Service at daybreak Monday recovered the body of a missing swimmer in 19 feet of water in East Grand Lake.

The body of 39-year-old Harry Dullys of New York City has been turned over to the chief medical examiner to determine cause of death, according to John MacDonald, spokesperson for the Maine Warden Service.

On Sunday afternoon, Dullys, who was staying with his wife at a camp on Moon Island, apparently had been attempting to swim to Loon’s Nest Island, a distance of about 200 yards, in an area of East Grand Lake known as “the arm.”

Dullys was swimming with a Labrador retriever. At one point Dullys’ wife noticed the dog continuing to the island, but she could no longer see her husband. After the warden service was contacted at about 4:30 p.m., numerous wardens and service aircraft were dispatched to the scene to search for the missing swimmer.

Late in the evening, using side-scan sonar technology, wardens identified what they believed to be Dullys’ body. Then at daybreak Monday, members of the Maine Warden Service Dive Team recovered Dullys’ body in 19 feet of water near Moon Island.

The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the scene by Downeast EMS, Danforth Fire, and Maine Guide Mark Danforth. Game Warden Brad Richard is the primary investigating officer.
