LEWISTON — The Secretary of State’s Eighth Grade Citizenship Award was presented to Lewiston Middle School student Eric Hall.
The award is presented to students throughout Maine who understand the importance of academic success and who devote time and attention to making meaningful progress. The award also serves to recognize those individuals who take responsibility for their work, and who strive to make contributions in their community.
Hall is a high honors student with almost perfect attendance and a consistent “A” average in all subjects. He demonstrates, daily, an engagement in learning; receiving accolades from every one of his teachers for his work ethic, class participation and academic prowess. Eric willingly offers to assist his peers without being asked and works collaboratively and effectively with all classmates. He is recognized as being just as helpful and encouraging to teachers and other staff.
If these sound like the virtues of a Boy Scout, it may be because this student is an active Scout, embracing all of the admirable qualities that this organization suggests. His civic involvement also includes participation in the American Lung Association’s Trek Across Maine, a three-day fundraising bicycle ride. Eric donates time for his community in helping both at the public library and at The Woman’s Literary Union.
Hall has participated in the Lewiston Middle School intramurals program and plays tennis and soccer. He also likes spending free time at Taylor Pond Yacht Club or skiing. Eric has enjoyed Chess Club with his fellow students, and plays the trumpet and the euphonium in the LMS band.
