GRAY — One of the nicest people in the world, Jeffrey Charles Carson, left this world surrounded by his family to join the angels in heaven on July 22, after valiantly fighting a brain tumor for more than 18 months. His endless courage and sense of humor was all that allowed his adoring family, friends and co-workers to sometimes forget that he had this problem.

Jeff was born in Portland, March 18, 1952, son of Charles and Frances Bagley Carson. After the early death of his mother, Charles married Alma Leighton Carson. Jeff was raised in Westbrook, where he graduated from Westbrook High School in 1971 with honors in automotives.

Jeff served in the Navy from 1972 to 1976 on the USS Constellation. He later obtained an associate degree from Westbrook College while working full time.

Jeff worked most of his life as parts manager of various trucking companies including Motor Truck and Trailer, A.J. Cole & Sons, Freightliner, and Whited Truck and RV.

He was a “people person” and most enjoyed selling motorhomes and RV’s at the former Motor Home and Super Center in Auburn and at Whited Truck and RV. He also enjoyed co-owning and running the Can Handlers in Gorham from 1990 to 1994.

Most of Jeff’s happiest times in life were spent riding his Honda Goldwing with his wife along with a wonderful group of motorcycle-riding friends who shared many fun trips over the years.

We cannot thank them enough for the countless hours they spent helping make Jeff happy and comfortable over the last few months. Heartfelt thanks especially to friends, Micky and Mary Lowell and Frank and Sherry Lane of Gray and Herb and Sue Blake of New Gloucester.

Jeff married and is survived by his best friend and high school sweetheart, Evelyn Bernier, in 1973. He also leaves two wonderful sons, James Carson and his wife, Michelle, of New Gloucester and their children, Austin and Kerry, and Ryan Carson of Gray and his children, Skylar, Abigail and Ryan.

Jeff definitely felt they were all his greatest accomplishments in life. The pride he felt in what wonderful husbands and fathers they became was unmeasured.

Jeff is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Lachance and husband, Dick, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Maine, twin sister, Jane Carson and husband, Dennis Gilbertson, of Westbrook, Judy Delisle of Portland and Natalie Johnson of Windham.
