Parish Thrift summer hours
JAY — Parish Thrift Shop, Bartlett Memorial United Methodist Church, will hold summer hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The shop offers lightly used clothes, household items, dishes, books, toys, baby clothes and some furniture. Parking is available.
Shelter offers spay special
FARMINGTON — Thursday, Aug. 2 is the last day to sign up for the $35 cat spay special at the Franklin County Animal Shelter. Price includes health exam, rabies vaccine and spay surgery. Call the shelter for more details, 778-2638.
Annual Music Sunday at church
WATERFORD — The ninth annual Music Sunday will take place at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29, at the Waterford Congregational Church at the foot of Plummer Hill Road.
This joyous mostly-music service of worship and celebration has become a favorite summer event for the church and the wider Waterford community. It will be followed by a reception at the Wilkins Community House next to the church and some other town events within walking distance of the church, including a photography exhibit at the Waterford Historical Society’s Old Town House.
Music Sunday No. 9 will feature a mixed voices choir of 40 singers led by choir director Jane Morse and guest conductors Linda Kilburn and Waltye Rasulala.
Vocal Solution will perform, Birch Rock campers will play their African drums and choir accompanist Kay Leslie will conduct a children’s choir.
Pastor Kim Marie will lead the worship parts of the service as the group celebrates music and its role in the life of the church. All are welcome.
Historical society auctioning book
ANDOVER — Andover Historical Society is taking bids on the black book of photos of old houses,”Glimpses of Olde Andover,” published in 1978. Sealed bids may be sent to PO Box 293, Andover, ME 04216. Mark envelope “Book bid 4 Aug. 2:30 PM.” Bids will also be accepted at the Andover building on Old Home Days, which is scheduled for Aug. 3-5.

Library celebrates state of Maine
PARIS — An “After Supper Storytime Celebrating Maine” with stories about Maine by Maine authors will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the Paris Public Children’s Library. Topics will include the ocean and island life, a rural farm with a visiting bear, the wilderness, camping, etc.
After the stories, a traditional Maine snack will be served. All ages are welcome. Seating for adults is available as is an elevator. For further information contact the library at 743-6994.
College orientation
BUCKFIELD — Oxford Hills/Buckfield Adult Education will hold college transition orientation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
The orientation will explain the process of applying to college, financial aid and the entrance exam.
