WINDHAM — Mekae Hyde crushed a three-run home run in the top of the first inning Thursday, and Pastime Club avenged its only losses of the Zone 3 American Legion baseball season with a 4-2 victory over Windham.

With one game remaining, Pastime (15-2) has clinched the No. 1 seed in the zone tournament, which begins with quarterfinal games Monday.

Pastime scored all four of its runs in the first frame, notching the other tally on an error.

Luke Cote hurled six innings to pick up the win, striking out six. Joe Sullivan worked a perfect seventh, fanning two and earning the save.

Cote, Corbin Hyde and Shawn Ricker each had two of Pastime’s eight hits. Losing pitcher Nathan Boyle tripled for Windham, which swept Pastime in a July 7 doubleheader at Lewiston.

Windham (11-5) is scheduled to visit Locke Mills (10-7) and host Rogers Post of New Auburn (5-12) in a two-site doubleheader Saturday. The Merchants must win at least one of the games in order to nail down the No. 2 seed.

Locke Mills, Bessey split

BETHEL — Jeb Clarke’s single in the top of the 10th inning boosted Locke Mills to a 6-5 victory over Bessey Motors in the completion of a suspended Zone 3 Legion baseball game Thursday.

Bessey bounced back with an 11-3 triumph in the teams’ regularly scheduled contest.

Locke Mills rallied from a 5-0 deficit after five innings when the game began July 10.

T.J. O’Connor reached on an error and stole second base to trigger the rally. He advanced to third on Dan Whitney’s single and scored on the Clarke hit.

Locke Mills ended the game by reeling in a fly ball, then doubling a Bessey baserunner at first. It made a winner of Ben Field, who threw five innings of relief on the initial game day before closing it out in the resumption.

Cox also tripled for Bessey. Clarke and O’Connor had two hits apiece, including a double by O’Connor.

Whitney also had a two-bagger against Ian MacFawn, who went the distance for his sixth win of the summer.
