WELD — About 30 voters turned out Wednesday night to authorize selectmen to enter into a lease-purchase agreement to buy a grader, Town Clerk Carol Cochran said Thursday.

The cost is not to exceed $16,000, she said.

At the special town meeting, selectmen recommended the town enter into a lease agreement with Androscoggin Bank for up to $16,000 for two years with an interest rate of less than 2 percent.

The town’s existing grader is a 1968, Chairman Wayne DuBois previously said.

The machine was nearing the end of its life and is obsolete. Parts are either impossible or difficult to find, he had said.

Selectmen are hoping to get a grader at a state surplus auction in August in Augusta.
