Puppet program at library

BRYANT POND — Douglas Twitchell, well known area ventriloquist, story teller and musician, will present a puppet program at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Whitman Memorial Library.

Young children should be accompanied by an adult. There is no charge and light refreshments will be served.

‘Flamingoes and fleas’sale

OTISFIELD — “Flamingoes and Fleas,” a fundraising sale for the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Community Hall in East Otisfield on Route 121.

The sale will help fund the scholarships for eight college students. Good stuff at reasonable prices, bake sale, collectibles.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on July 9 were as follows: first, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Helen Little and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Cindy Kirchherr and Jim Krainin; fourth, Linda Leotsakos and Henry Lerette.

The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate BC winners on July 11 were: first, Hazel Glazier and Nancy Farmer; second/third tie, Patricia Quinn and Richard Balian with Nancy Lindgren and Leslie Lord; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Fred Letourneau; fifth, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

Winners at Schooner Estates on July 12 were: first, Fred Letourneau and Mike Quinn; second, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; third, Claire Lyons and Rosemarie Goodwin.

Hacker’s Hill walk/run

CASCO — The Hacker’s Hill four-mile Preservation Walk and Run will take place Saturday, Aug. 11, raising funds for Loon Echo’s newest preserve.

Hacker’s Hill in Casco has been the focus of the organization’s campaign efforts; just over $150,000 remains to meet the $800,000 selling price and establish a permanent endowment.

The course for the first-ever event will have runners and walkers striding uphill on Quaker Ridge Road, finally ending atop Hacker’s Hill with stunning views of the mountains and lakes. The cost to runners and walkers is $20 per adult, $15 for children and youth.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and runners will take off at 8:30 a.m., with walkers to follow. All proceeds will go to the protection and stewardship of Hacker’s Hill.
