WELD — Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were interviewing a suspect late Tuesday afternoon who they say admitted to several burglaries in the last couple weeks in Weld and Carthage.

Deputies responded to a call of an attempted burglary Tuesday morning on Center Hill Road in Weld.

A resident was home and scared the male suspect off, Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

The male left in a blue car, he said.

The description of the suspected vehicle and the man were conveyed to area police in Dixfield, Wilton and other agencies.

Dixfield police took the suspect into custody near Bradbury’s Market on Route 142 in Carthage and deputies went over to interview him, Yeaton said.

“He admitted to committing numerous burglaries over the last couple of weeks in Weld and Carthage and taking mostly jewelry and coins,” Yeaton said.

Some of the stolen items have been recovered, he said.

Besides Dixfield police, deputies were assisted by Wilton police and a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was in the area.

Yeaton didn’t have the name of the suspect as of 3:45 p.m. No further information was available Tuesday.
