Event to mark Fourth of July
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A July 4th celebration will take place starting at noon in the town park.
First breakfast will be on July 4
WATERFORD — Wednesday, July 4 marks the first of four Waterford Summer Breakfasts at the Wilkins Community House at the foot of Plummer Hill Road next to the Congregational Church.
The breakfasts are from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and feature an extensive menu of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, freshly baked muffins, donuts, juice, coffee and tea, for $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 10. Children under 5 eat for free.
The remaining three summer breakfasts, all on Wednesday mornings, are on July 18, Aug. 1 and Aug. 15.
Visit the Wilkins House basement yard sales from 7:30 to 11 a.m. during each of the summer breakfasts. New goods at bargain prices appear at each yard sale.
AARP group to meet July 9
PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, July 9, at the First Congregational Church, E. Main St., South Paris. The menu includes ham, vegetable platter, bread and dessert. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, July 6.
The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. and members are reminded to bring money for the August outing and to be prepared to make menu selection.
Speaker will be Chris Davis from Healthy Oxford Hills, who will speak about their many programs to improve healthy living.
Hartford Church clothing center
HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays, July 7 and 21. The center is directly opposite the church.
Texas hold ’em tournament
HARRISON — A Texas hold’em tournament will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the VFW Hall, 176 Waterford Road. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $105. Space is limited to 100 players. Refreshments will be available.
Proceeds will be used to provide community services by the Lion’s Club.
Logging Museum holding auction
RANGELEY — Rangeley Logging Museum Auction will take place Saturday, July 7. The auction is the major annual fundraiser for the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum. Donations for items, goods and services are being accepted at the museum Wednesday through Sunday, 11-5, or at Parkside and Main Restaurant (talk to Steve Richard) anytime.
This year the Auction takes place at the museum at 221 Stratton Road (Route 16), rain or shine on Saturday, July 7. Preview of the auction items begins at 9 a.m. and lively bidding begins at 10 a.m. with auctioneer, Steve Richards.

RUMFORD — A Texas Hold Em Tournament will be held Saturday, July 7, at American Legion Post 24. Games start at 10 a.m. Buy in $50. Lunch will be served at noon, $6.

Peru Historical Society meeting
PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Peru Historical Society Building.
Life Line Screening planned
PARIS — Residents living in and around the South Paris community can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. South Paris Baptist Church will host Life Line Screening on Thursday, July 12, at 1 Park St.
Screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient. Screenings identify potentials cardiovascular conditions as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.
