WESTBROOK — Hot Tuna, aka guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady, members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame supergroup Jefferson Airplane, will play Thursday, July 5, at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center.

They and longtime collaborator/mandolinst Barry Mitterhoff will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Opening will be former Portland area residents, fiddler Darol Anger and Emy Phelps. The two recently relocated to the Boston area where Anger is associated with the Berklee College of Music and Phelps has just released a new album, produced by Anger.

Back in the late 1960s, Kaukonen and Casady decided to form a roots-oriented  side project to keep busy when Jefferson Airplane wasn’t touring. That side project has endured for more than 40 years. Hot Tuna recently released its first studio album in 20 years, “Steady As She Goes,” produced by Larry Campell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
