Chris Sparks of Rumford tries his hand at hitting golf balls during Saturday’s qualifying for Sunday afternoon’s finals for a chance to win a quarter-million dollars. Anyone can buy as many balls as they want to try to hit them as close as they can to a pin set up between Pine Acres Golf Course and Roy’s Driving Range on Route 4 in Auburn. Qualifying will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. The top 10 closest to the pin during qualifying will have one shot to get a hole in one at 1 p.m. Sunday. The first to make a hole in one will receive $250,000 dollars. If no hole in one is made, cash awards totaling $500 will be awarded to the three closest to the pin. The event is a fundraiser for Central Maine Adaptive Sports, of which Sparks is a member.
