CHESTERVILLE — Voters elected Guy Iverson to serve on the Board of  Selectman on Tuesday.

Iverson earned 89 votes over candidate Nicole Ibarguen who took 78 votes.

The position became available when Selectman John Worth resigned earlier this year leaving only two members serving on the board.

Residents voted during the town meeting in March to extend the number on the board to five members after a citizen petition sought an increase from three to five members.

Some people thought it would be beneficial to have five when someone was absent or if someone resigned, Town Clerk Pat Gordon previously said. Elections for a one-year and a three-year term will take place at the annual town meeting in March 2013.
