FARMINGTON — The free Community Cooling Center will begin Wednesday, June 6, and run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday in June, July and August at Living Waters Assembly of God, 547 Wilton Road.

Paris High alumni to meet
PARIS — The Paris High School Alumni Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Haskell House meeting room at the South Paris Congregational Church on East Main Street.
Food Pantry open June 6
WEST PARIS — Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 6. The pantry, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St., is open from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month and from noon to 2 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, excluding holidays.

‘Clean the Museum’
DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society needs your help. A “Clean the Museum Night” will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7.
Bring a cleaning rag and help dust off old artifacts for summer viewing. Those who would like to join DHS are also welcome.
Community free luncheon
FARMINGTON — A free monthly community luncheon will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Old South First Congregational Church.
The menu includes oven-roasted chicken, cole slaw, green beans, roll and brownies.

Local Council to meet
FARMINGTON — The Farmington Local Council meeting will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, the Allen Room, at 11 Franklin Health Commons. 7 1/2 Mile Yard Sale
NORWAY — The annual 7 1/2 Mile Yard Sale sponsored by the Heywood Club will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9. Rain or shine.
Auction aids Hereford group
FRYEBURG — Maine and Northern New Hampshire Junior Hereford members are holding a Take-A-Chance Auction on Saturday, June 9, at the Agricultural Center at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds. Auction viewing starts at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 7 p.m. with the drawing starting at 7 p.m.
A sheet of 25 tickets is $5; there will also be deals on tickets. No wrinkled or bent tickets will be accepted. There will be a $1 table, 50/50 raffle and a food booth.
Members are from Fryeburg, East Dixfield, Corinna and Troy, as well as Wolfeboro, N.H. They are raising money to go to the Hereford Jr. National Show in Grand Island, Neb., July 2-8. There they will show and participate in other events like showmanship, illustrated speeches, team marketing, team fitting, grill cook-off and type shows.

Legion plans Texas hold ’em
RUMFORD — A Texas hold ’em tournament will take place Saturday, June 9, at American Legion Post 24. Games start at 10 a.m. Registration starts at 9. Buy in $50. Lunch will be served at noon; cost is $6.
Hazardous waste collection
MEXICO/ANDOVER — A household hazardous waste collection for River Valley residents will be held Saturday, June 9, in two locations.
The first collection will be at Region 9 on Route 2 in Mexico, across from the transfer and recycling station, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The second collection will be at the Andover Transfer Station on Route 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Some examples of household hazardous waste include cleaners, solvents, chemical lawn fertilizers, weed and insect killers, swimming pool chemicals, driveway sealers, rat poison, moth balls and rechargeable batteries.
Latex paint will not be accepted. Latex paint is water based and is not hazardous.
Wastes being brought to the collection event should be in the original, securely closed containers if possible. If any container is leaking, pack the whole thing into a bucket. Never mix chemicals, and do not smoke or eat while handling or transporting hazardous materials.
These events are made possible by a grant secured by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition. For more information, contact Patty Duguay at 364-7408. Businesses are not eligible to participate.
New assault support group
PARIS — Beginning in September, Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services, known in Oxford County, Bridgton and Harrison as REACH, will begin a new support group for women who have experienced sexual assault, whether that was as children or adults, recently or in the past.
The group will meet weekly in the South Paris/Bridgton area for 20 weeks, at no cost. The dates and times of the meetings will be based on the availability of participants.
The group will be based on the book, “The Courage to Heal,” by Laura Davis.
Anyone interested in becoming part of the new women’s support group should contact the REACH office, 743-9777. REACH staff will meet individually in June and July with women interested in learning more about the support group.
Social Security seminar
PARIS — Edward Jones will hold a Social Security Seminar at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Western Maine Community College Center. A buffet-style dinner will be served. Space is limited so RSVP by calling Jessica Putnam at 743-2041 by June 11.
Quilters to meet
RUMFORD — Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. This will be the last meeting until September. Ice cream sundaes will be served.
To participate in the quilt show upstairs in the church, members may bring two items to display, including the “mystery” quilt made this year, finished or not. For more information call 562-7050.
Day camp scholarships
RUMFORD — The River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition has been awarded funding from the Agnes M. Lindsay Trust and local businesses to offer camperships for local children ages 5-13 to attend Day Camp at Black Mountain, sponsored by the Greater Rumford Community Center, or to the Summer Fun Camp at Rumford Elementary School, sponsored by the Western Foothills Kids Association/21st Century Grant and RSU 10.
These camperships are available to families in the River Valley area who are financially unable to send their child to day camp.
Day Camp at Black Mountain will run the weeks of June 18 and 25 and Summer Fun Camp at RES will run the weeks of July 9, 16, 23 and 30.
