LIVERMORE — The 2011 town report is dedicated to father and son Frank and Donald Castonguay for their longtime commitment to the community.
“Both Frank and Donald Castonguay represent the spirit of rural Maine,” the dedication states. “They work hard, they’re resourceful, and they care deeply about their families and community. As good examples go, you can’t do much better than these two,” the dedication says.
The report is available at the Town Office.
Frank is a longtime farmer and former paper mill worker who started a slaughterhouse in 1972. He is 85 and still active in Castonguay Meats, which is run by Donald.
Donald is one of 10 children Frank and his late wife, Alice St. Pierre, raised at their Gibbs Mill Road residence. Donald is chief of the Livermore Fire Department. He joined the department some 35 years ago, becoming assistant chief in 1994 and chief in 2006, according to the report.
“Don is quick to note that if it weren’t for the support of his family, he probably wouldn’t be able to juggle the demands of running a small business while serving on the Fire Department,” the dedication says. “As one family member puts it, when a call comes in, there’s usually somebody around to stand in until he can return.”
Frank is Livermore’s constable and election warden. He is a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Donald is also a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
He and his wife of 26 years, Jackie, live on a part of the property his parents bought in 1956. They are the parents of twins, Brian and Brittney.
Donald “can be found at their hall every Thursday calling Bingo, or in the kitchen with his famous spaghetti sauce at countless community fundraising suppers,” the dedication states.
“We expect the two gentlemen that are the subject of this year’s town report dedication to be embarrassed by the honor, as they probably don’t consider themselves to be particularly noteworthy,” the dedication says. “More likely, they see their way of life as merely doing what needs to be done.”
