Memorial Day dedication

RUMFORD — On Sunday, May 27, the Rumford United Methodist Church will celebrate Memorial Day with the dedication of two brass flower vases given in honor of the late Rev. Robert Plummer, who served the Rumford Methodist churches for many years.

Carrying on the Memorial Day theme, Jim Robertson will play the trumpet as part of the accompaniment to the favorite hymn, “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Additionally, on this special day in the life of the Christian church, Pentecost, Amanda Houston will be baptized and the choir will sing the anthem, “Spirit Lead Us.”

The church service will begin at 11 and will be followed by the Fourth Sunday lunch.

Storytime on May 30

RUMFORD — The final Preschool Storytime for this school year will be held at the Rumford Public Library at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30. The theme is “Birthdays,” so lots of birthday stories will be read.

The final story time tradition has been to have a picnic after the stories have been read. This year participants will celebrate with birthday cupcakes after picnic lunches have been eaten, hopefully outside in the library park, so bring a lunch and a picnic blanket. If it rains, blankets will be spread in the Public Room.

All area children ages 2-5 are welcome. Storytime will resume in the fall.
