SALEM TOWNSHIP — Voters passed a $9.5 million SAD 58 district budget on Tuesday night.

The budget, which is down 3.5 percent from last year, passed by more than a 2-1 margin. Of the votes cast in all five towns, 370 voted for it and 180 voted against it. Three towns passed the budget with more yeas than nays. Avon, Eustis and Kingfield all voted for next year’s spending plan by wide margins, while Phillips and Strong voted against the proposal.

Avon residents will pay $359,551, an increase of $15,115. Strong residents will pay $776,742, an increase of $50,403. Phillips will pay $742,448, $13,667 more; and Kingfield will pay $1,315,417, an increase of $85,650. Eustis voters will pay $826,560, a decrease of $80,484.

The fiscal year begins July 1, 2012.
