RUMFORD —Two Peru families will be participating in the American Lung Association’s Trek Across Maine on June 15-17.

A two-day garage sale on May 19 and 20 will be held in Rumford to raise money for their ride.

Katie and Ethan Cantin, and Sam and Penny Rock, will join thousands of other cyclists raising money to fight lung disease and increasing awareness about the importance of lung health.

This will be Katie Cantin’s 7th year of participation; Ethan will be riding in his second trek. Penny Rock and her son, who have been friends with the Cantins since the boys were infants, will make their maiden ride.

The boys are now sophomores at Dirigo High School. Katie Cantin is a physical therapist at Androscoggin Home Health; Penny Rock is a cosmetologist at All That Jazz and a nursing student at Central Maine Medical Center College.

Katie Cantin and her father, Steve Hardy, and others in her family have asthma. Penny and Sam Rock are riding in honor of James Dragoon, who is battling cancer originating from Mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer.
