FRYEBURG — Greg Sanborn, 46, lives in Sidney with his wife, Deborah. Sanborn has T-cell lymphoma and needs to find a matching stem cell donor. Sanborn is a Fryeburg native and grew up there. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1984.

He is the son of the late Harold Sanborn, a long-time teacher and coach at Fryeburg Academy, and Blanche Sanborn, a retired teacher with the Fryeburg school system.

Sanborn is head of the Maine Warden Service.

On Saturday, May 19, at 5 p.m. friends and neighbors will have a benefit dinner and silent auction to raise funds for a matching stem cell donor drive, which will take place the next day, Sunday, May 20, from noon to 4 p.m. Both events will be at the Fryeburg Academy gym. Organizers are hoping to raise $50,000.

Becoming a stem cell donor requires only a screening interview and a cheek swab.

Those wishing may go to www.friendsofgreg.net to make an online donation to the fund or mail q donations to Friends of Greg Sanborn, c/o Norway Savings Bank, 557 Main St., Fryeburg, ME 04037. To volunteer at the dinner or stem cell drive, contact Ellen Benson Guilford at 754-3143.

The cost of stem cell donor testing is ordinarily $100 a test. However, no one will be turned away. The Friends of Greg Sanborn intend to raise the funds necessary.
