Talk on Russia
AUBURN — Dot Bowyer of the Woman’s Literary Union, 19 Elm St., will give a slide show presentation of her recent trip to Russia on Tuesday, May 15. The free event starts at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
Light refreshments will be served following the presentation. Street parking is available. WLU is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes the educational, cultural, and intellectual advancement of its members and community.

Public works visit
AUBURN — A “Public Works Celebration and Exhibition: Androscoggin County” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Auburn Mall.
Public work crews from Lewiston, Auburn, Sabattus, Lisbon and Greene will celebrate National Public Works Week. Kids will be able to see and explore dump trucks, street sweepers, demonstrations and displays.
There will be toy hard hats, balloons, giveaways and games.

Eureka plant sale
DURHAM — The Eureka plant sale will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Durham Eureka Community Center, junction of Routes 136 and 9.
There will be annuals, perennials, veggies and hanging baskets. The Eureka Café will be open for lunch.
Eagles sock hop
LEWISTON — A Rock Around the Clock sock hop for breast cancer will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles 618, 1327 Sabattus Road.
Burgers, hot dogs and fries will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. Music will be provided by Pink Sock Hop DJ Jim Merrill.
Church plant sale
LISBON — The Lisbon United Methodist Church will hold the annual plant and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
Spring art show
DURHAM — The Durham Historical Society will hold a Spring Art Show featuring local artists from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Union Church/Old Durham Town Hall, Route 136. There will also be a bake sale to benefit the Restoration Fund. Admission is free.
A handcrafted quilt has been donated for a raffle to raise funds for the Restoration Fund. The quilt will be on display at the show and other summer and fall events. The winner will be draw after the last fall event.
May Faire
MONMOUTH — A May Faire will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, on the lawn and porch at Cumston Hall.
It will include plants, a quilt raffle, books, birdhouses and displays. Sign-ups will be taken for the Summer Flower Pots program beautifying the downtown.
The Junior Fire Department will serve hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and a lobster roll lunch and bake sale will take place in the Caucus Room.
All event locations are subject to the weather.
Lifeguard course
LEWISTON — An American Red Cross lifeguard recertification course will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Bates College. The cost is $100 a person.
Proof of prior certification and a $50 nonrefundable deposit are required at registration. A pocket mask and access to lifeguard manual are required.
