Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald read a proclamation and nominated The Jesus Party, an urban youth outreach, as the local recipients of the “Spirit of America Award” by the Maine-based Spirit of America Foundation. The foundation promotes and encourages volunteerism. The Jesus Party recently celebrated its 17th year of ministry and was chosen for the award because of the impact the ministry has had on children and inner-city families. The ministry will join with others from around the state who are to receive this same honor in June at the State Capital. Pictured are Macdonald and JP director, Rev. Douglas Taylor, at the city council meeting.
