History intern sought
BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society has announced that, thanks to generous financial support from BHS life member Michael Swift Stowell of Flagler Beach, Fla., it will again sponsor an eight-week high school history internship for qualified students in grades 9 through 12 at Gould Academy and Telstar Regional High School.
Applicants should be between 14 and 18 years of age, possess a strong interest in learning about local and regional history and be highly motivated, honest and reliable. A group of retired educators will review all applications for this summer position, select candidates to be interviewed and make recommendations to the society’s executive director.
Applications must be received at the society’s office at 10 Broad St. by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25. A decision on the successful applicant will be made by Friday, June 15, with the internship beginning on July 1 and continuing through late August.
The internship provides a stipend of $1000 which is paid in two installments. The successful applicant may be involved in museum tours, special event planning, oral history projects, collections management, exhibit preparation and other museum-related activities with highly qualified professionals and volunteers.

Pops event to aid health center
BAR MILLS — All Star Evening of Pops, the annual benefit concert for Leavitt’s Mill Free Health Center, will take place Saturday, May 12.
New this year a silent auction will be held from 5 to 7:15 p.m. at the Old White Church, 15 Salmon Falls Road, next to the Saco River Grange Hall.
From 6 to 7 p.m. and open house and international cheese bar will be available at Leavitt’s Mill Free Health Center, 63 Main St.
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Saco River Grange Hall, 29 Salmon Falls Road, performed by the All Star Concert Band. Desserts will be available during intermission at the church. Suggested donation is $15; students and seniors, $13; children 12 and under are free. Call 929-6472.
VFW Ladies bean supper
HARRISON — The VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9328 will sponsor a public supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Harrison VFW on the Waterford Road, Route 35. The menu includes homemade baked beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, casseroles, salads, pies and beverages. This supper is a fundraiser for the Ladies Auxiliary. Donations appreciated.
Facebook for Seniors
PARIS — The Paris Public Library will host a free Facebook for Seniors program, which will be broken down into three two-hour sessions. Part 1, Building your Facebook Account, will by Monday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Part 2, Privacy Settings in Facebook, will be Tuesday, May 22, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Part 3, Adding Photos and Making Posts, will be Tuesday, May 29, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Community lunches begin
OTISFIELD — The first Otisfield Community Lunch of the warm season will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Community Hall on Route 121. Menu will include beans, salads, sandwiches, cookies, tea and coffee. It is free with donations gratefully accepted.

Paris School alumni meeting
PARIS — The Paris High School Alumni board meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the South Paris Congo Church vestry, East Main Street.
Historical Society meeting
PARIS — The Paris Cape Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at its museum and meeting room, 77 High St., for its monthly meeting.
Joseph A. Boudreau of Gilead, a retired computer consultant, will speak on the Patriot Missile System. He was hired by the federal government to check the quality of the computer programs for the Patriot Missile System that was built by Raytheon. It was used in the SCUD war. He had several secret clearances to work on the project. Boudreau will display some documentation on the program.
Refreshments will be served following the meeting, which is open to the public.
‘Whale’ sale planned
PARIS — The Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association has set the date for the annual “Whale of Sale” yard sale. Yard sale committee chair, Glenn Huntley, has announced July 14 and 15 as this year’s sale date. If anyone has unwanted household items to donate to the club, call Glenn at 966-3161 or Fern at 739-6070 to arrange drop off or pick up of items.
Proceeds of the sale go into the general fund to help the club with improvements at the clubhouse, range and several other initiatives the club supports including, but not limited to, sending local children to The University of Maine 4-H Camp & Learning Center at Bryant Pond and the scholarship fund.
The club meets the third Wednesday of each month at the clubhouse at 744 Buckfield Road at 6:30 for a potluck supper and business meeting to follow. All are welcome.
Plant sale benefits pets
NORWAY — The Spectacular Plant Sale to benefit Responsible Pet Care will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19, at the Norway Town Hall/Fire Station. Plant donations are needed.
