WEST PARIS — Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 2. The pantry, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St., is open from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month and from noon to 2 p.m. the third Saturday of each month, excluding holidays.

Trout Sale extended

PARIS — The Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District has extended the deadline for ordering trout to May 31 in order to allow more people to take advantage of the sale.

This year the district is offering brook, brown and rainbow trout for stocking private ponds. All deliveries of fish will be made directly to the ponds by Pierce Associates/Shy Beaver Hatchery. A permit to stock is required from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Applications for the permit are available at the Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District, 17 Olson Road, South Paris, or by contacting the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife in Augusta at 287-5261.

Kite making workshop

WATERFORD — John Martin will conduct a kite making workshop for kids of all ages at the Waterford Library at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5. Participants will have an opportunity to fly their creations behind the library afterwards. A light snack will be served. Children elementary age and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The Waterford Library is on Routes 35 and 37.

Mahoosuc spring concert

BETHEL — Mahoosuc Community Band will play its Spring Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the West Parish Congregational Church, UCC on Church Street.

Patricia Boyle-Wight directs the community band. Refreshments to follow the performance. Donations accepted to help defray the costs of music purchases.

World’s Fair meeting, clean-up

WATERFORD — The May meeting of the Waterford World’s Fair will be held on Sunday, May 6, at the fairgrounds. This will also be a work day to open up the building and do some spring cleaning. The work will start at 10 a.m. and lunch will be provided by the Ladies of the Fair.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. in the dance hall. Bring rake and gloves for outside clean-up, or a broom and cleaning cloths for indoor clean-up. Ron Hill, grounds superintendent, also would like to get the downstairs and the attic of Old MacDonald’s Barn cleaned out.

Bring returnable cans and bottles to help raise money for several new projects that are being planned like a blacksmith shop, a track for ATV and antique tractor pulls and a new deck on the outside of the food shack, to name a few.

Everyone is welcome to prepare the grounds for this year’s fair, which will be held on July 20-22.

Socrates Cafe meeting

WATERFORD — A Socrates Cafe gathering will be held at the Waterford Library on Monday, May 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month. The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where divergent views will be welcome.

The topic for the May meeting will be “Incarnation Nation: Justice in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” The moderator will be Ed Somers.
