LEWISTON — Buckle up! The the 4th Annual Lewistunning Dragapalooza is in the works.
The popular benefit for Outright L/A has only grown in its scope and outrageousness since it began in 2009. Staged at the Schaeffer Theater on the Bates College campus at 305 College St., this year’s event takes place on Saturday, May 5. Tickets are $10 and general admission.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7, with an intermission where raffle prizes will be drawn for a variety of local items and gift certificates. Advance tickets are encouraged, as the show sells out. Dragapalooza features talented dancers, physical artists, comedians, fashion designers, out personalities and activists organizing to benefit Outright L/A, the only remaining Outright in Maine.
Outright L/A’s mission is to create safe and affirming environments for those age 22 and under who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and/or questioning. FMI check out http://www.outrightla.org
The Dragapalooza showcases local and national talent. It has seen finalists from Rupaul’s “Drag Race,” queens and kings from northern and southern Maine and performers from the Twin Cities. It involves youth in its scope —sometimes performing for the first time on stage.
Included this year will be Miss E’on, Dave End, Prodigy, Ms. Grayling, Shaunna Rai and 5G, Stephon and Sam Parker.
Dave End is an acoustic D.I.Y. troubador who in the past two years has released two albums, and toured 4,500 miles in a veggie diesel car tackling subject matter like bullying, homophobia, body image and heartbreak with humor, bounce, and jamboree-style glee.
There will be water and snacks available at the show.
Hosted by local celebs Grayling Cunningham and Christopher Dufour, patrons can expect a hoot of an evening with the lively crowd, including an appearance by Ticket Boy and a squad of sassy and firey talent. ng Dragapalooza. Tell your friends.
