Sign-ups for cook off

PARIS — Sign-up deadline for the Oxford Hills Chapter of the National Honor Society’s chili and chowder cook off is Friday, April 27. The group is raising funds to build a well in Africa. VFW turkey supper

SOUTH PARIS — A turkey supper will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the VFW Post 9787 on Lower Main Street. The cost is $7, $3 for children 12 and under.

Church plans Music Sunday

PARIS — The First Universalist Church on Pine Street will celebrate Music Sunday at the 10 a.m. worship service on April 29. The theme is “Beauty of the Earth” and will be facilitated by Marilyn Hammond and Sharon Bouchard.

There will be selections from the choir and flute solos by Renee Wales and several familiar hymns to share with the congregation. Music is under the direction of Joyce Franklin and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales.

Coffee and fellowship will follow the worship service and all are welcome. Childcare is available.

Raffle for paralympics

PARIS — Personal Best Health Club is selling chances to win a one year gym membership to benefit Josh Kennison’s race for the gold at the 2012 XIV Paralympics in London from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9. All proceeds go to Josh Kennison.

Tickets are available at the front desk at Personal Best Health Club on Western Ave in South Paris. They are $5 each or three tickets for $10 and are available through June 18. For information, call Christine at 739-BEST.

Senior Social to honor vets

HARRISON — The Harrison Recreation Senior Social, with a theme of “Tribute to Our Veterans,” will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Congregational Church. This will be the final social until the fall.

The social hour begins at 11 with the meal being served at noon. Menu will be homemade turkey stew, biscuits and beverages followed by a red (strawberries), white (angel food cake) and blue (blueberries) dessert. Cost is $3 or donation.

Red, white and blue will be the dress color of the day.

This month’s event is sponsored and hosted by Harrison Recreation with the support of many volunteers. Those interested in sponsoring or volunteering for a Senior Social during the 2012-13 season should contact Paula at 583-2241. The senior socials will resume in the fall and always on the first Tuesday of each month.
