FARMINGTON — Voters from nine towns will go to the polls Tuesday to consider adding the town of Starks to RSU 9 to make it a 10-town school district serving students from Franklin, Kennebec and Somerset counties.

On Tuesday, residents in Starks overwhelmingly approved the plan to join RSU 9, also known as Mount Blue Regional School District based in Farmington.

Starks residents voted to withdraw from Regional School District 59 based in Madison in Somerset County in February.

Bringing Starks into the district would bring $400,000 to Regional School Unit 9. It is expected there will be minimal influence on the RSU 9 budget, which is currently $25.3 million.

RSU 9 Superintendent Michael Cormier previously said the proposed addition of Starks will be a “win-win” situation for everybody.

Polls will be open Tuesday, April 24, in each of the current district towns.
