LIVERMORE — Living History Tour Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road. The cost will be $8 for adults, $6 for children age 12 and under, with a $25 family rate. There will also be a special Child’s Taste of History, by reservation only.
General living history tours will enable visitors to interact with people who portray a local person, someone you might have actually met had you visited in 1870. Visitors will have the opportunity to see blacksmithing demonstrations, help bake in the farmer’s cottage, practice penmanship and mental arithmetic under the watchful eye of the schoolmarm in the one-room schoolhouse, play games in the dining room and meet a Washburn in the 1867 mansion.
As a special treat, those age 10 and older may participate in A Child’s Taste of History, where they will join “Aunt Callie” and “Aunt Clara” for an hour in the Washburn family kitchen to learn about farm life in 1870. This in-depth experience includes playing a game with artifacts, cooking on the wood stove and making and writing an 1870 journal.
The special program will be offered at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. For ages 10 through adult. Limited to 12 children/adults per program on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations may be made by calling 897-4366 or emailing norlands@norlands.org.
