Veterans raffle winner

PARIS — The South Paris Maine Veterans Home Easter basket raffle was won by the Naples VFW Post 11362. They in turn donated the basket to a local church food pantry.

GLBT group forming

AUGUSTA — Integrity, a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) Episcopalians, is forming a new chapter in the Central Maine area. A meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Summer St. GLBT people of different faith traditions are also invited to the meeting.

Historical group meeting

PERU — The Peru Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the home of Bob and Shirley Dolloff for a potluck supper and meeting to follow. Maine Memory Network will be discussed.

Addiction to be topic

BETHEL — “Understanding Addiction and Its Impact on Our Friends, Families and Community” will be presented by Tom Farrington, certified alcohol and drug counselor, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at The Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St.

Participants will have an opportunity to make suggestions for specific addiction-related programs of interest that may be offered in the future. A local support and treatment resource table will be available.

Coffee, muffin social April 18

HARRISON — The next Community Coffee and Muffin Social will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 18, at the Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church, Bolsters Mills Road.

Paris Cape Historical

PARIS — The first meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society in 2012 will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at 77 High St.

After a brief business meeting Ben Conant will speak on Paris’ Civil War monument and its establishment and history. Following the program refreshments will be served. The public is welcome, and the museum is accessible to the handicapped.

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from April to December. Starting in May the museum will be open every Thursday afternoon from 1 to 4. Personnel will be on hand to assist the public with research. New members are always welcomed.

Community potluck supper

WATERFORD — The Wilkins Community House will hold a community potluck supper at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19. All are welcome. Bring a friend and a dish to share.

The Community House is in Waterford Flat on Plummer Hill Road behind the village green next door to the church. Community suppers are held on the third Thursday of each month through May. The hosts for this supper are the Holmstocks and the Murphys.

Yard sale helps Smile Fund

BETHEL — An indoor yard sale to benefit the Smile Fund of West Paris Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21, in the church basement.

The sale will feature tools to toys and everything in between. Plants will be available for the gardens. Donations will be accepted Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 18, 19 and 20.

The Smile Fund, established nine years ago, is dedicated to helping adults in the SAD 44 area who are in need of restorative dental work. Contact the Rev. Virginia Rickeman at 824-0550 for further information about the Smile Fund or to submit an application for aid. All applications are confidential.

Kindergarten screening

WATERFORD — Registration and screening for next year’s pre-K and kindergarten classes at Waterford Elementary School will be held on Tuesday, May 22. Children who will be 4 years old as of Oct. 15 can register for pre-K and children who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible to attend kindergarten.

Parents are encouraged to contact the Waterford Elementary School office immediately to set an appointment time for May 22. Appointments will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Be prepared to give the child’s name, birth date, home address and phone number. On May 22, parents must present a copy of the child’s official birth certificate, a copy of the immunization record and a copy of the child’s most recent physical exam.
