Grange to hold annual meeting

AUBURN — Morin Brick Company, celebrating their 100th anniversary in Danville, will be honored on Thursday, April 12, when Danville Junction Grange holds their annual Open Meeting in conjunction with National Grange Month. Dessert will be served at 6 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Norman Davis of Poland, an employee of Morin Brick Company for many years, will give a talk on the history of the company and will accept a Community Service Award in its honor.

State Master Patrick Brewer will be present to award membership certificates to some longtime members of the grange. Appreciation certificates will also be presented. Well-known musical performer in the area, Mitch Thomas, will entertain.

The meeting is open to the public.

Cribbage winners named

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 5 were: first place, Anna Faucher and Dick Dennis; second place, Trudy Therrien and Bert Chenard; third place, Terry Chambers and Victor Bernier; fourth place, Ed Hinckley and Bryan Lambert; fifth place, Monique Nadeau and Arnie Burgess.

Supper, dance to help Ritches

AUBURN — The Veterans of the Armed Forces will hold a supper and dance to benefit Valerie Ritche and children, who lost everything in a recent Poland fire, from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the American Legion Post 31, Washington Street. Donation is $10.

A spaghetti dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with music by Mike LaRoche and Ryan Allen of LaRoche Entertainment. Dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. will feature music by Juke Rockets.

There will be a 50/50 and raffles, including a special raffle for a custom motorcycle trailer.

Car wash to benefit mission

LISBON — The 2012 Dominican Republic Missions Team from the Lisbon Falls Baptist Church will have a benefit car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Haggerty Realty, 353 Lisbon St. There will also be a bake sale, face painting and lemonade stand.

Money raised will be used to help pay for shipping luggage filled with tools and school supplies being brought down by the 2012 Dominican Republic Missions Trip sponsored by Lisbon Falls Baptist Church. The missions team will leave on May 6 and returning May 15.

Church plans indoor sale

MONMOUTH — An indoor yard and bake sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the East Monmouth Church Vestry, Route 135.

Furniture, household goods, collectibles, books, children’s items, jewelry, sporting goods and more will be for sale. There will also be home-baked goods, lobster rolls, fish chowder and hot dogs for sale.

Nonviolent protests to be taught

AUGUSTA — MOVE ON.Org in collaboration with the 99% Spring and other partners will be presenting a nonviolent direct action training from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 69 Winthrop St.

Participants will learn nonviolent tactics and strategies on how to do direct civic action protests during presentations throughout the day.

Interfaith Forum plans next visit

AUBURN — The Interfaith Forum continues its visits to area houses of worship this weekend with a visit to the Turner Street Community Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15. The church is at 263 Turner St. The parking lot is behind the church at 40 Whitney St.

Cafe, activities for seniors

READFIELD — Seniors and retirees looking for something social or interesting to do are invited to enjoy tea, coffee and activities at the new Senior Center/Cafe at Maranacook Middle School, Route 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday and Wednesdays.

Tea, coffee, muffins, games/cards and presentations are provided. Participants are invited to bring knitting, crafts, books, writing, instruments and friends.

Activities include hiking the trails and helping students plant gardens or with other special projects. Ideas and suggestions are invited.

Parking is available in the first lot on the right in reserved spaces facing the cafeteria.

Temple offering Judaism intro

AUBURN — Temple Shalom to offer an adult education class on (Re)Introduction to Judaism. The course for all levels of knowledge will be offered by Temple Shalom Synagogue’s Adult Education program.

Rabbi Hillel Katzir, the spiritual leader of Temple Shalom, will welcome anyone who is just curious about Judaism, anyone who might be thinking about converting to Judaism and Jews who want to restart their Jewish education.

The class begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and will meet for six consecutive Thursday evenings, all at Temple Shalom, 74 Bradman St.

The class is free for synagogue members; there is a $25 registration fee for nonmembers. All students are asked to obtain the text book, “To Life!” by Harold Kushner, on their own. There will also be a text on Jewish history, written by Rabbi Katzir, available for purchase at the first meeting of the class.

Grange seeks talented people

POLAND — Excelsior Grange in Poland is sponsoring its fourth annual amateur talent contest and is seeking contestants. There will be two age categories, youths from 4 to 15 and adults over 16. The contest will be held Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall on Harris Hill Road.

Each category will have two monetary prizes, $100 for first place and $50 for second place. The audience will also choose one act as the Peoples Choice Award, which has a prize of $50.

All forms of general audience entertainment are encouraged to enter. Preregistration is required. The deadline to enter is April 21.

Audience admission will be $3 for adults, with children under 12 free. Anyone wishing to enter the contest can request an entry form or more information by calling 998-2301 or emailing sverrill@roadrunner.com. Entry forms will also be available at local schools.

Lisbon Rec softball meeting

LISBON — The Lisbon Rec Department will hold an informational meeting for anyone interested in fielding or playing on a team this summer. This is an adult coed softball league, and games are on Sundays.

Father-Daughter ball in Turner

TURNER — The Father-Daughter Spring Fling Ball will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 28, in the Leavitt Area High School cafeteria.

The ball benefits the Leavitt High School Baseball and Competition Cheer Boosters and River Valley Hornets Cheering. This is not an RSU 52 sponsored event.

Daughters from K-8 and their father or father figure (grandfather, uncle, etc.) will enjoy a very memorable evening out together dancing the night away. Tickets are $35 per couple and $5 for each additional child per family. Only a limited number of tickets will be sold and the tickets are nonrefundable.
