WELD — Thomas H. Skolfield has announced that he is a Republican candidate for Maine State House District 92 seat.

Skolfield, born in Rumford and raised in Weld, had a 43-year career in public service with the Maine Department of Conservation’s Bureau of Parks and Lands, according to his campaign announcement.

Skolfield began as a seasonal Park Ranger at Mount Blue State Park in 1967 while attending college. He managed Grafton Notch State Park before returning to manage Mount Blue State Park for several years.

He then transferred to southern Maine where he served in the Park Service for the next three decades managing the Sebago Lake State Park before becoming the regional manager for the bureau’s southern region state parks, historic sites and boat launch facilities.

He has a degree in forestry and is a graduate of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

Skolfield currently serves as a selectman in the town of Weld.

Skolfield and his wife, Gordeen, have four adult children, three sons and a daughter, and eight grandchildren.

“I am running primarily so I can join the effort to make Maine a place where all our children and grandchildren can grow up, have the opportunity to stay, make a good living and happily thrive and prosper,” Skolfield said in a prepared statement. “Achieving a state government that is ethical and efficient at all levels is my mission.”

District 92 includes Madrid, Rangeley Plantation, Sandy River Plantation and Weld in Franklin County along with Andover, Byron, Roxbury and Rumford in Oxford County.
