FARMINGTON — Residents of the eight-town Regional School Unit 9 will have the opportunity to learn more about a plan to add the town of Starks.
At 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the Board of Directors will open a public hearing before its regularly scheduled meeting at Mt. Blue Middle School.
Maine Department of Education Commissioner Steven Bowen has given conditional approval for Starks to secede from RSU 59, which also includes Madison, Athens and Brighton Plantation.
After the April 10 hearing, voters will go to the polls in their towns to cast ballots for or against the option on April 24.
Starks voters held their public hearing on March 26 and will vote for or against joining RSU 9 on Tuesday, April 17.
Currently, RSU 9 towns include Chesterville, Farmington, Industry, New Sharon, New Vineyard, Temple, Vienna, Weld and Wilton.
