FARMINGTON — Bail was set at $1,000 Friday in Franklin County Superior Court for a Wayne man facing a felony charge of gross sexual assault.

Mark Kimball, 60, made an initial video-conference appearance before Judge Paul Cote, who was in South Paris.

According to court records, the charge stems from an incident Feb. 26 in Carrabassett Valley involving a child under the age of 10.

Kimball, the child and another adult were at Sugarloaf when the adult became alarmed and spoke to Carrabassett Valley police. Maine State Police Detective Randall Keaton was called to investigate.

Kimball was arrested Thursday. He was bailed from Franklin County Detention Center on Friday on $1,000 and conditions which include no contact with the child, the child’s family and other children.

He is scheduled to appear in court May 25.
