Lewiston and Auburn ministers who preached three weeks ago on local conditions exhorting the people to rebel against nullification of prohibition laws were scored Monday by Frank A. Morey, mayor of Lewiston, in his inaugural address at city hall. Mr. Morey accused the ministers of meddling in politics.
50 years ago, 1962

To celebrate the occasion, these youngsters from the St. Patrick’s Street area in Lewiston began a public lobby to get an official city street sign placed at the entrance of the street. This home made sign was displayed today as part of their youthful political campaigning. A state environmental official said Monday that the three tons of imported oily waste received at the city’s energy-recovery facility last year all consisted of absorbent pads used to clean up oil spills. The steam plant got two tons of the pads from New Hampshire and another ton from Massachusetts.
