FARMINGTON — A deputy escaped injury Tuesday when the cruiser he was driving collided with a deer on Route 4, about 2 miles north of Town Farm Road, heading toward Strong.

Two deer jumped across the road in front of the 2009 Ford Expedition driven by Deputy Christopher Chase, and the cruiser struck one of them, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Farmington police Sgt. Michael Adcock investigated the 9:30 a.m. accident, Yeaton said.

The department was busy moving into its new police station on Franklin Avenue on Tuesday and officers were not immediately available to return non-emergency calls.

The deer died at the scene, Yeaton said.

He estimated the cruiser received about $2,000 in damage to the front bumper and hood.

The cruiser was drivable, he said.
