FARMINGTON — A local man faces charges after police say he left the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Temple Road Monday afternoon.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of an accident at about 3 p.m.

A sport utility vehicle had struck an anchor pole to a utility pole but no one was around the vehicle, officer Ted Neil said. The anchor pole was knocked down and there was significant damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle, he said.

Officer William Tanner caught up with the driver, Joseph Metcalf, 19, of  Farmington who was on foot on Porter Hill Road, Neil said.

Metcalf told police he was driving on Temple Road toward Farmington and attempted to take a turn on to Clover Mill Road and lost control, Neil said.

Neil said the vehicle was going too fast to make the turn.

Metcalf had a suspended license with only a permit to drive, he said.

Metcalf was charged by summons on a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident. He also received  a summons for traffic infractions of operating after suspension and operating beyond permit restrictions, Neil said.

Metcalf’s license was suspended because he had unpaid fines, he said.
