DIXFIELD — Dirigo High School’s fifth annual Diversity Day will feature dozens of presenters and topics that include student rights and teen homelessness.

The event takes place all day on Monday, March 5.

Coordinator Norm Greenberg said the purpose is to expose students to a variety of viewpoints, cultures and social issues from around the world. New topics include vegetarianism, animal protection, eating disorders, how women are portrayed in the media, teen homelessness and student rights.

“We surveyed students for what they are interested in,” he said.

Keynote speaker Nicole Manganelli of the Unity Project will start the day with a talk titled “The Destructive Impact of Bias and Harassment and How Students Can Prevent It.” It begins at at 8:15 a.m. in the gym.

Several schools in RSU 10 have had presentations on bullying in the past few months.

Discussions by people who grew up Germany, Iran, Brazil and France, and by African-Americans living in the area will be presented.

Students will have a chance to learn what it’s like to be disabled or to experience instant aging. They’ll also learn about yoga, Buddhism and Baha’i, healthy relationships, safer sex, and perspectives from gay students.

Students may choose up to four workshops.

The day’s events end with a musical performance.
