Pre-K registration
MONMOUTH — The Cotrell School is collaboration with Southern Kennebec Child Development Corp. Headstart will provide a 4-year-old program during the morning in the fall for children who meet established criteria and a pre-school program in the afternoon. Both programs will be located at the Henry L. Cotrell School.
Children must be four years of age on or before Oct. 15. A copy of the child’s original birth certificate, Social Security card and health record including immunization dates will be needed. The child will be checked for height and weight, vision and hearing as well as a brief screening with a Cottrell staff member. Call the school for an appointment at 933-4426.
Job workshop
LEWISTON — On March 8, the Lewiston Public Library will host another free Employment Search workshop in the Couture Room on the first floor of the library from 1 to 4 p.m. The class will be conducted by Patrick Therrien, the technology and education training specialist from the Maine State Library, and will focus on the latest techniques and strategies for job searching.
This workshop will provide participants with the tools needed to succeed in the current environment, including networking and the use of social media. The session will also help workers understand the best ways to find job openings.
The Lewiston Public Library has joined forces with Maine Career Centers and the Department of Labor to offer programming geared to help job seekers learn new skills and better understand how to find employment in this difficult economy.

Retired educators
LEWISTON — The March meeting of the Auburn Retired Educators’ Association will be held on Wednesday, March 14, at the Green Ladle Restaurant at Lewiston High School. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. The cost of the meal is $10. Sandy Matherson, executive director of MainePERS will be the guest speaker.
The theme for the State Convention on May 9 is “Strong at 60.” AREA has received a Ritter Grant to assist in sending some members to the State Convention. The committee has decided to pay the $20 registration fee for 15 members who have not attended a State Convention. Those wishing to be considered should sign up at the March meeting.
Because this is the 60th State Convention, the AREA Board of Directors would like to have at least 60 members attend to support the theme “Strong at 60.”
