WALES — Oak Hill High School’s Theatre in the Woods will present “Requiem, Poems of the Terezin Ghetto,” by local author and poet Paul B. Janeczko, on March 2 and 4.

Hitler hailed Terezin (Theresienstadt) as a haven for artistic Jews when, in reality, the Czech concentration camp was little more than a way station to the gas chambers.

Janeczko says “Requiem” gives voice to the dignity and resilience of Terezin’s inmates and honors their commitment to art and music in the face of extreme brutality.

This one-act presentation will also be part of the high school’s one-act regional festival put on by the Maine Principals Association on March 9-10, hosted by Leavitt High School, one of several regional festival locations.

Student actors include Gwenyth Fraser, Michael Del Santo, Elijah Washburn, Patrick Caskin, Amanda Bloss, Megan Rodrigue, Kayla Gayton, Kenyon Fraser, Emily McLean and Chris Jones, along with Emma Weissenfels and Joseph McGeoghegan as understudies.

The production is directed by Lucy Rioux with technical direction by Helen Sherman. Other production crew members are Cassidy Stevens, Sarah Carpenter, Declan Doyle, Taylor Pelletier, Cody Frechette, Anthony Pushard, Jacob Kupfer, Amber Pelletier, Travis Burnham, Zachary Fisher and September Brooks.
