FARMINGTON — The streetlights on Center Bridge over the Sandy River on routes 2, 4 and 27 will continue to be out at least for the coming long weekend.

The lights have been out for about three weeks, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

The Maine Department of Transportation changed the fixtures to LED lights on Thursday but the problem is with the wiring, Davis said.

“A junction box in the sidewalk on the west end of the bridge is full of ice,” he said. “Maine DOT cannot check the wiring until the ice melts. They cannot thaw it for fear of damaging the wiring. That means they will have to wait for it to thaw naturally.”

Someone from Maine DOT will be back to check on it Tuesday, he said.
