HARRISON – The Harrison Recreation Department is sponsoring a host of school vacation activities beginning Monday, Feb. 20.

On Monday is snow tubing at the Oxford Plains Snow Tubing Park for grades two through 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $16 and includes transportation and three hours of tubing. The bus leaves the Town Office parking lot at 9:15 a.m. Registration and release forms are available at the Town Office. The deadline for sign-up is Feb. 17.

On Feb. 22 there will be sledding at High View Farm from 1 to 4 p.m. Children ages 8 and younger must be accompanied by an adult and are encouraged to wear a helmet. Participants should bring their favorite sled and dress for the weather. Hot cocoa and snacks will be available. The cost is free.

The 4th annual Youth & Family Ice Fishing Derby will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26. Participants may register before the derby at the Harrison Town Office or on the day of the derby at the boat launch at the head of Long Lake. The derby will be held Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Adults who are not actively fishing can assist their children without a Maine fishing license but are required to register with the derby and to fish in the sanctioned area. Only fish caught in Long Lake will be eligible for prizes.

On Feb. 25 there will be a buffet breakfast at the Congregational Church in Harrison featuring scrambles eggs, homemade pancakes, sausage, home fries, muffins, fruit, orange juice, coffee and tea from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Donations are appreciated.

Also Feb. 25 there will also be a public supper sponsored by the Waterford World’s Fair Association. The dinner, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., will be held at the Congregational Church. It will feature baked stuffed haddock, macaroni and cheese, potato, vegetable, homemade pie and beverages. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 6 years old and younger.

On Feb. 26, the snowmobile radar run, sponsored and hosted by the Harrison Friendly Riders Snowmobile Club, will be held on Crystal Lake. Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The racing will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $20 for three runs or $10 per run.

Participants under the age of 18 may run with parental permission (parents must sign a release waiver.) Racing will be by class. There will be an antique snowmobile class. There will be a food booth available with burgers, hot dogs, chili and beverages.
