PARIS – Rapper Spose will be in Paris later this month for a concert to benefit the family of Logan Dam, the 19-year old Norway man who was killed in a West Paris car crash last month, along with a local high school student.

“It’s a real big honor,” Shawn Boutilier of Paris said of setting up the concert to help his friend’s family.

“(Spose is) doing this out of his own heart,” he said.

Boutilier tweeted with the rapper on Twitter to ask him to come to Norway for the benefit. “He said it was a great cause.”

The concert will be held at the Crazy 8 club at 187 Main St. on Feb. 24. A $5 minimum donation is requested at the door. The owners of the club have donated the space and sound equipment, Boutilier said.

Dam is a former Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School student who was employed as a cook at Sunday River when he died. Rebecca Lynn Mason, 16, of West Paris was also killed in the Jan. 7 crash.

Driver Kristina Lowe, 18, of West Paris, and Jacob Skaff, 22, of Paris were injured.

Boutilier said Dam’s friends called him “Little Peach.”

“We’d spend all day and night riding our four-wheelers and dirt bikes,” he said. They also ice fished and played online games.

“He was just a kid who had a positive outlook on life. He was always smiling,” Boutilier said. “He was like a little brother to me.”

The accident has had an impact on Boutilier and other friends, some of whom have formed a group to make people more aware of distracted driving issues and to organize future events to keep the message alive about the dangers of distracted driving.

Police said alcohol and texting were factors in the crash.

Boutilier said he now thinks carefully about drinking or texting before he gets into a car.

“Since the accident happened, I notice I wait until I get to where I’m going,” before texting, he said.

Spose, whose real name is Ryan Michael Peters, will be at the club throughout the evening, Boutilier said. “It will be a great chance for everyone to meet him.”

According to his Web page, Spose’s 2010 hit, “I’m Awesome,” led to his deal with Universal Records. The song became the theme to Canada’s CBC Television comedy series “Mr. D,” starring Gerry Dee.

The Wells, Maine, resident was most recently featured on a promotional advertisement for Channel 6’s Storm Center during the third quarter of the Super Bowl on Sunday.

In addition to Spose, Boutilier’s group Northstar, hip-hop group Sandbag with Jesse Wagner of Portland and Flowpez of Waterville will play sets.

T-shirts honoring Dam will be sold at the benefit.

All proceeds will go to Dam’s parents, Douglas and Deborah Dam of Norway, who are expected to be at the benefit. Logan was their only child.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. Only those 21 or older will be allowed in the bar area, but the pool room will be open to underage kids who want to hear the concert, according to a spokesperson at Crazy 8.
