Program on the heart

BETHEL — “Caring for Your Heart,” a special program for American Heart Month, will be presented by Dr. Daniel E. van Buren, board-certified cardiologist, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, (snow date Feb. 16) at the Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St.

The program is sponsored as a community service by To Your Health of Western Mountains Senior College with the collaboration of Bethel Family Health Center and SAD 44/Continuing Education. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 824-2053.

Sunday speaker

PARIS — The speaker for the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, Feb. 5, at the First Universalist Church on Pine Street will be Elizabeth Rice, director of the Oxford Hills Food Pantry.

Rice will talk about the functions and needs of the local food pantry. This is also the annual food drive for the church, and the congregation is asked to bring nonperishable goods.

Music will be provided by pianist Linda Stowell. Brunch, coffee and fellowship will follow the service and all are welcome. Childcare is available.

Pathologist to speak

BRYANT POND — Guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, will be Dr. Fred B. Jordan, a medical examiner/forensic pathologist who grew up in Maine.

He will take a somewhat whimsical look at forensic pathology over the years and will talk about the Maine Medical Examiner System then and now, mass disaster planning and a few case studies.

There will be time to ask questions. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served. The event was rescheduled due to a January storm.
