FARMINGTON — Alice E. Purington, 86, of Chesterville, went home to be with the Lord early evening on Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Sandy River Center for Rehabilitation surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Phillips, a daughter of George E. Armstrong and Blanche (Pillsbury) Cushman. She attended school in North Jay.
Mrs. Purington worked as a young woman in a local nursing home and later at G.H. Bass in Wilton. She later retired from the Ames Department store.
She was a former treasurer and Sunday school teacher at the Chesterville Center Church.
She enjoyed painting, working in bountiful flower gardens and time spent with her grandchildren.
Alice is survived by her children, Larry Purington and his wife, Aline, of Jay, Lila Yates and her husband, Max, of Vienna, Errol Purington of Anson and Toby, Deborah and Jan Purington, all of Chesterville; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Purington May 19, 1997; children, an infant daughter, Naomi, Lorelia, Tracy and Belle; siblings, Wilmet, Phillip and Howard Jackson, Ruth Young, Thelma O’Donnell, Roy, Paul and Walter Cushman, Ilda and Pauline Voter and Pearl Dimuzio; and an infant grandson, Donald Allen.
