Relay fundraiser
LEWISTON — Girl Power Fitness will host a soup and chowder cook-off from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the YWCA of Central Maine to help raise funds for the 2012 Androscoggin County American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
The cost to enter the cook off is $10 and the cost to attend, sample, vote for a favorite and eat is $5. The winner will be awarded half of the entry fee collection. LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 23 were as follows: first, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; second, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; third, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; fourth/fifth tie, Nancy Glusker and Donna Bartlett with Anna Vitiello and Mike True.
The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club winners on Jan 24 were: first, Mary Ann Trafton and Mike True; second/third tie: Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos with Paul Sherman and Kathleen Burden.

Lyme Disease info
AUBURN — There will be a Lyme Disease awareness event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Park Avenue Elementary School. The event will showcase 15 local vendors, Zumba dance led by local instructors, five guest speakers each detailing their experiences with Lyme Disease, raffles and more.
Any money raised through raffles and donations will go to a local nonprofit organization called Lyme Buddies, run by Amie Levasseur, a Poland resident.
The benefit honoree is Christy Keep, a local mother and Zumba instructor who is being treated for chronic Lyme Disease. Christy’s friends and fellow Zumba instructors have made it their mission to help her raise awareness and help Lyme Buddies raise the money to pay for their nonprofit status.
Legion Superbowl
AUBURN — The American Legion, William Rogers Post 153 will hold its annual Superbowl event at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the post home, 71 South Main St., New Auburn. The event is sponsored by the Sons of the American Legion.
There will be a potluck at 4 p.m. with giveaways, a 50/50 drawing and lots of camaraderie.

Teen adventure
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free adventure trip to Mt. Blue State Park for teens affected by cancer. Winter Teen Adventure Tri, offered through the Center’s Healing Tree Children’s Program, will take place Saturday, Feb. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The trip is available to ages 12 and older and their families.
Transportation, lunch, entrance fee and equipment for up to 15 adolescents will be provided. Family and friends must provide their own transportation. Activities include cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, a sleigh ride and nature walk.
Dempsey Center Children’s Program Coordinator Tookie Bright will facilitate with support from Dempsey Center volunteers and interested parents.

Laughter yoga
LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free laughter yoga workshop for anyone interested in participating. The workshop will take place Monday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 4 p.m. at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room H.
Certified Laughter Yoga leader Marcia Jackson will show how to combine unconditional laughter with yogic breathing to produce positive energy. The process makes it easy to cope with stress of daily life. If you can laugh and clap your hands you can participate.
