The Bates College Museum of Art will show works by Xiaoze Xie, one of China’s most prominent contemporary artists, from Jan. 23 to March 18. His paintings of stacked newspapers, decaying books and media images explore the tenuousness of history and memory. This work, ink on rice paper, is titled “May 23, 2003. C.T.” Xie will give a lecture at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, following the opening reception. The museum is in the Olin Arts Center, 75 Russell St., Lewiston.
