FARMINGTON — Local author Kristen Case, an assistant professor at the University of Maine at Farmington, will give a reading and book signing Thursday, Jan. 26, at Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers.
Case is author of “American Pragmatism and Poetic Practice: Crosscurrents from Emerson to Susan Howe.”
Case maintains that American poets from Emerson to Susan Howe have responded to the central problems of Western philosophy by performing, in language, the continually shifting relation between mind and world.
She teaches courses in American literature, environmental writing and the intersection of poetry and philosophy. She has published articles on Henry David Thoreau, Robert Frost and Ezra Pound. Her poems have appeared in Chelsea, The Brooklyn Review, Pleiades, Saint Ann’s Review and The Iowa Review. Her current research is on the late unpublished natural history manuscripts of Henry David Thoreau.
