It is expected that the work of installing a new water wheel at the Lewiston pumping station will be completed tonight or tomorrow morning and that the city’s lighting plant will be in operation Sunday night, when all of the street lights will be on.
50 years ago, 1962
A crowd of about 600 attended the annual Jordan Grammar School minstrel show at Lewiston High School auditorium Friday evening and applauded enthusiastically for the young students, who gave a lively performance.
About 90 students participated in the program, which included songs, dances, instrumental numbers and specialties by the cheer leaders and majorettes, who drew an ovation when they appeared in dresses reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties.
25 years ago, 1987
GREENE — Selectmen have been asked to seek a $20,000 appropriation at the March town meeting for the purchase of a computer for the town office, they reported Monday night.
Sally Hebert of the computer committee told selectmen that the committee has visited the town offices at Poland, where there is a computer in use. The committee was formed at the March 1996 town meeting to study the need for a computer in Greene’s municipal office.
