100 years ago, 1912

In a fire which broke out in the stable of Emil Dionne on Pierce Street, that building was badly gutted and much damage done to the workshop attached to the same. The blaze was one of the most spectacular in this city for some time and only the fine work of the department saved the nearby buildings.

50 years ago, 1962

A group of Lisbon Falls men were gathered together in a local store recently when the topic of conversation turned to the national March of Dimes project. Novel ways of raising money were being discussed when someone asked how many steps were in a mile. After mush discussion, measuring and computations, 2,120 steps to the mile seemed to be about right. At a dime a step this would mean $212 per mile.

Larry M. Desjardins volunteered to take one step for each dime collected. On Saturday Larry will start from the Lewiston-Lisbon town line on Rte. 196 and take one step for each dime donated. The goal will be the Lisbon-Topsham town line.

25 years ago, 1987

The Lewiston City Council will meet in a special session Saturday to review an operating budget for the first six months of 1987.

Councilors are expected to vote on the $9.4 million plan, then review an operating budget by the School Department, according to City Clerk Gerald P. Berube.
