100 years ago, 1912
Sheriff Lowe’s deputies yesterday morning made a large seizure of hard liquors at the Grand Trunk station, Lewiston. The seizure comprised two lots both of which were addressed to L. Abramson. One lot contained 47 gallons of whiskey and 24 quarts of wine and the other lot contained 75 gallons of gin, 30 gallons of whiskey and 48 bottles of Tom and Jerry.
50 years ago, 1962
The city of Lewiston, hit hard by measles the past few months, still is having its troubles as far as the pesky, contagious disease is concerned.
Reported this week were 41 new cases, four less than the total for the previous week.
Other diseases listed include nine cases of mumps, six cases of chicken pox and single cases of whooping cough, roseola and impetigo.
25 years ago, 1987
A motel chain based in South Dakota plans to build a 48-unit complex on Pleasant Street in Lewiston, a spokesman for the company confirmed Monday.
Karen Thibodeau, manager of Super 8 Motels Northeast Inc., said ground was broken earlier this month for the project, which will be located directly across the street from the Ramada Inn.
